Okay so here’s the thing: Sometimes I like to blind buy perfumes on Amazon that have tons of reviews on Fragrantica and are classic perfumes for years because hey, why would they be so popular for so long right?
That was my thought process when I bought YSL’s classic Opium in the beautiful new bottle.
Well, it wasn’t such a great idea. This perfume made me sick. Literally I ended up with a migraine at one point. I tried it on three separate occasions and it’s a no go. 
Introduced in 1977, Opium screams to me disco, slinky halter tops, Bianca Jagger and yayo. I should love this because I’m fascinated by that whole studio 54 time, I wished I was old enough to have partied then. Sadly, I was not and sadly I can’t get with this fragrance.
Controversial ad by Opium with a nude Sophie Dahl. This ad was actually banned from British Billboards for being too raunchy.
Top Notes: Bergamot, Mandarin Orange, Lily of the Vally
Middle Notes: Carnation, Jasmine, Myrrh
Base Notes: Patchouli, Opoponax, Amber, Vanilla
I only get Myrrh, Amber and Carnation.
What in holy hell is Opoponax? See, this is when I feel like I know nothing. The fragrance community is going to kick me out for this. First, for dragging one of the classics and 2nd for not knowing what Opoponax is.
Oh well, you can’t win em’ all. That’s the risk you take when you blind buy. It’s a gamble. Sometimes it pays off, other times, you end up in the shower scrubbing your chest, then laying in a dark room with your head throbbing, trying not to puke. I hate saying this because I love Yves Saint Laurent, I thing he’s a genius so please no disrespect there.
I am sure that this fragrance on the right woman in the right climate is a total sex bomb of a scent. But I just could not, cannot, will not again. I’ll be selling this on my channel. Come over and subscribe to get it.
